Sugarcottonwool.com is Happening!

Page 1

You heard it here, folks. “Sugar Cotton Wool”, the giant puzzle book, is becoming it’s own website. I’m still working out the kinks, but some feedback would be interesting.

I think the new format really helps in the perception of the game and it will be interesting to see how the internet peoples will discover this.

It’s My Birthday!

Yay!

As of today, I’ve officially been trapped in this sexy body–and officially been stuck with this brilliant mind–for 24 years. ;-)

All cockiness aside though, I’m honestly really happy with every moment that I’ve lived through thus far, and look forward to all the rest that are coming down the line. Sure, I’m not yet a self-sustained artist, but I am my self and I am an artist, and two-out-of-three really ain’t that bad!

23 was pretty rad, over all…

I do feel lucky, and I’m just as much looking forward to what this next year has to offer. Thanks for perceiving me. You’ve made this birthday wonderful.

Mike.

A quest for Shanleys finds Laura…

As you might know, dear reader, my last name is Shanley. And being a human being, I like searching the internet for my own name from time to time.

Way back when, I was in fact the only Michael Shanley on all the internet and indeed, the only Shanley. I was actually under the impression that my immediate Shanley family members were in fact the only Shanleys in the world. However much Auldus Huxley might think that time must have a stop, I don’t, and I knew the day would come whence I would meet another of my clan…

That said, time has passed and will ever on, and many, many Shanleys have popped up across the globe. What a wonderful world where one Shanley can turn into hundreds! …and what fascinating things that all of them are doing!

But today I want to talk about one in particular, who is extremely interesting. May I introduce, Laura Shanley, of FreeBirth.com!

What People Find When They Look…

A modest suggestion is what this is, with an extra credit program for those who excel.

The suggestion follows:

When preparing to witness a new thing,
ask yourself, “What am I looking to see?”
You should be looking to see something wonderful.
Unless you like looking at obscene things,
Don’t look for obscenity in all that you see.
It’s a simple thing.
Expect the wonderful.
Just try it and see what I mean.

Generally Hopefulness

I thinks generally an air of hopefulness about consciousness is that which links it together.

So as thus:
a person is hopeful about the best outcome coming next, and finding general satisfaction in the outcome of the current moment,

as thus:
a dog or daggit might find hope to be in the form of what the best outcome of the current moment might be, and being as such, is happy in general about what’s going on now,

not even as thus is undone:
a cell, and that contained within it, one thinks prisoner, but also, interestingly ascertained, mitochondria, rhibosomia, geneticandra, the cabools, and so, they are finding of contentment in work as buddha and in hebrewish as many little rules, and wishing generally in hopefulness,

thus concluding:
this is the way to know we’re knowing ‘we are one’.

Marching to the Beat of the Same Drummer.

The future looks bright kiddies, though I’ve got the strange suspicion that most of these predictions are guessing too far into the future. Hell, in approximately 4.75 years, some goodly scientist could unleash a nano-symbiont into the world that remakes us all into a utopian hive mind. The pig is in the oven, friends, but I could wait until 2049 if I have to…

Finding Me Elsewhere

Since the site redesign (minus transferring all of those yummy recipes–they’re coming!), I’ve been working overtime on reintegrating myself and the three big W’s. Here’s a list of the places you can find me if you happen to go there anyway…

Attn: Ladies and Germaphobes,

Today, in an effort to bring even better stuff to all of you kind folks out there, I’ve launched my podcast, “Radio Everything!” This first episode is really just a brief talk about who I am and what I have to offer.

Thus, it’s only about 25 minutes long, has one song from Wishes are Horses, one from Under the Rug, and one sample from the future album Zoy.

Send all of your questions, comments, and love letters to me!

The New Site!

Welcome!

My name is Michael Shanley, and I’m here to show you how to do the best you can do at whatever you choose to.

I lead by example.

In just my first two years, (2006 & 2007), I’ve written three books (one of poetry, one of digital photography, and one giant puzzle for the ages), I’ve composed, recorded, mixed, and mastered eleven albums–two doubles–(one whimsical, one meandering, one logical, one epic, one trippy, one transcendent, one storm-wrecked, one enchanting, one progressive, one merry and moody, and one even undefined) and I’ve managed to do some pretty great other stuff besides.

And there’s more on the way! An album called Planar Burgs and a cookbook after that, then Zoy, Games for Different Mindsets, and an epic graphic novel around the bend.

I offer it all for free so that all can call themselves gifted and do the best they can do at whatever they choose to.

Mike

Planar Burgs

Music:
Planar Burgs

Travel to far off locales with Michael Shanley as he takes you on a musical tour of the reality that extends beyond myth, legend, and imagination. This album of strange songs and stranger characters is the answer to the question we’ve all been asking: “What does music that we can’t conceive sound like?” Michael’s answer is startling, exhilarating, and abstract. Explore the planes, make new friends, and ponder what lies even further along the vast pathways of the Infinite.

Sugar Cotton Wool

Book:
Sugar Cotton Wool

Everything in life worth knowing is obscured by levels of secrets and lies. Beneath this book of 100 poorly translated letters is a series of puzzles that must be solved in order that the seeker might reach the deeper puzzles beneath them… and yet more even further down. What secret do these puzzles protect? What vital knowledge is obfuscated by this mystery? Are you determined enough to find out? Are you strong enough to handle that knowledge if and when you get it?

‘Sugar Cotton Wool’ is for everyone who ever wished they were living in a detective novel, a horror story, or an adventure movie. Seek and ye shall find.

Under the Rug

Music:
Under the Rug

Under the rug, behind the walls, between the lines, outside the universe, inside your dreams–and all of the other places that cannot be reached by travel… This is music that is designed to evoke the feeling of the unknown, the feeling of elsewhere, the feeling of nowhere.

This album was designed to be used to “wake up”… in as many senses as come to mind. The slow swelling of ‘Passage’ helps guide you from dream into waking, ‘Alarm’ clears your eyes of that last bit of sleep, and ‘Purgatory’ hangs around like a shade in Hades, reminding you of “where you are, where you were, and where you’ll be.” Some testing is required, but setting the CD to begin 30 minutes before you absolutely must wake up will sound the alarm right on time.

Digital Entropy

Book:
Digital Entropy

The sky is falling and everyone knows it. Time marches forward and things fall apart. Our ability as creators advances every day with cell phones, genetic engineering, and computers, yet for all our building, we are harbingers of the fall. Every photograph in this book is a testament to the time-honored tradition of destruction, corruption, and glorious decay. Deny it, advance it, or just watch it burn.

Neti, Neti

Music:
Neti, Neti

‘Neti, Neti’ is a parade of misfit musicians marching through outer space with a smiling Buddha at the front, leading the band into the heavens. The Buddha turns to you and laughs–just when you think you’ve got the whole thing figured out, you realize you don’t. A set of Siamese twins decide to pick up on the bearded lady’s melody just as she joins the human eel in harmonizing. Again, you think you’ve reached the end, but the Buddha laughs again and mimic’s the improvised orchestra from start to finish on a infinite organ. Horrah!
